A North Texas attic can get extremely hot in summer. Without good ventilation that heat bakes your shingles from below and pushes your AC harder.
Cool air comes in low (soffit vents), hot air goes out high (ridge vents or other exhaust vents). You need both, in balance.
A roof replacement is the best time to correct ventilation.
