TILE ROOFING · DALLAS–FORT WORTH

Tile roofing in Fort Worth & Dallas — repairs, matching and replacement.

Concrete and clay tile roofs give a home a distinctive look and can last a very long time. They also work differently from shingle roofs, and they need a roofer who understands how to walk, repair, and install them without breaking tiles or missing what is happening underneath. RezComm Roofing & Construction repairs and installs concrete and clay tile roofs across Dallas–Fort Worth, along with slate and synthetic slate.

Start with a FREE AI drone roof scan, which is especially helpful on tile because it lets us see the whole roof before anyone steps on it. Estimates are FREE with no obligation, and you can request a FREE storm history report for your address.

How a tile roof works

On a tile roof, the tiles are not the main waterproofing layer. They protect the roof from sun, hail, and wind, and they shed most of the water, but some water can get under tiles in heavy, wind-driven rain. The underlayment beneath the tiles is what keeps water out of the house. That has two important consequences:

  • A tile roof can look fine from the street while the underlayment underneath is wearing out.
  • Many tile roof "replacements" are really underlayment replacements, where good tiles are carefully removed, new underlayment and flashing are installed, and the tiles are reinstalled.

Signs your tile roof needs attention

  • Cracked, broken, or slipped tiles, often after hail, wind, or foot traffic from other trades like satellite or HVAC installers.
  • Missing tiles that expose underlayment to sun and rain.
  • Leaks or ceiling stains, which on a tile roof often point to aging underlayment or failed flashing rather than the tiles themselves.
  • Cracked or missing mortar at ridges and hips, where used.
  • Rusted or failing flashing in valleys, at walls, and around chimneys.
  • Debris buildup in valleys that holds water.
  • Visible underlayment that looks brittle or torn where tiles are missing.

Tile roofing options and tradeoffs

Concrete tile

Concrete tile is the more common tile choice in DFW. It comes in flat, low-profile, and high-profile (barrel-style) shapes and many colors. It is durable and generally more affordable than clay. Concrete tiles are heavy, and color can fade over time in strong sun.

Clay tile

Clay tile is fired and holds its color very well. It is a classic choice for Spanish, Mediterranean, and Mission-style homes. It is typically more expensive than concrete and can be more brittle under foot.

Slate and synthetic slate

Natural slate is a premium, very long-lasting material that is also heavy and costly. Synthetic slate gives a similar look at a lower weight. RezComm installs both.

Weight and structure

Concrete tile is several times heavier than asphalt shingles. Standard-weight concrete tile is commonly around 9.5 to 12 pounds per square foot, compared with roughly 2.5 to 4 pounds for asphalt shingles. Homes built for tile are framed to carry that load. If you are thinking about switching from shingles to tile, the roof structure needs to be evaluated first, and lightweight tile or synthetic slate may be options.

Tile roofs in North Texas weather

  • Hail can crack tiles, especially brittle or older tiles. Cracked tiles let more water reach the underlayment.
  • Wind can lift or dislodge tiles that are not properly fastened, especially at edges, ridges, and hips.
  • Heat and UV are handled well by the tiles themselves, but the underlayment beneath still ages over time.
  • Foot traffic after storms, from anyone climbing on the roof, can break tiles if they do not know where to step.

How RezComm handles tile roofs

  1. We fly it first. Our free drone scan, with proprietary AI damage detection and thermal imaging, lets us see cracked tiles, slipped tiles, and possible wet areas across the whole roof before walking on it.
  2. We walk it carefully. We inspect by hand, stepping where tiles are supported to avoid causing damage. We check tiles, flashing, valleys, ridge and hip details, and penetrations, and look at underlayment where tiles are missing or lifted.
  3. We explain your options. Tile repair, underlayment replacement with tile reinstallation, or full replacement, with photos of what we found.
  4. Free written estimate.
  5. For repairs: we replace broken tiles with matching tiles where available and repair flashing or underlayment in the affected area.
  6. For underlayment replacement or reroofing: we remove and stack reusable tiles, replace damaged decking, install new underlayment and flashing, and reinstall the tiles, replacing broken ones.
  7. Cleanup and final walk-through with you.

Finding matching replacement tiles can be a challenge on older roofs, especially when a profile or color has been discontinued. We will tell you up front if an exact match is not available and what your options are.

Tile roofs and insurance claims

Hail and wind damage to tile roofs is often reported as part of a storm claim, and coverage depends on your policy and the adjuster's findings. RezComm documents damage with drone imagery and hands-on photos, provides an estimate, and meets your adjuster on the roof so the damage can be reviewed in person.

RezComm does not negotiate or adjust claims; Texas law reserves that for licensed public adjusters. We never promise approval, and Texas law requires you to pay your deductible, which contractors cannot pay or waive. See storm damage repair and Does insurance cover roof replacement in Texas?

Warranty, insurance, and financing

Our work is backed by RezComm's 5-year workmanship warranty, and new roofing products carry manufacturer warranties that vary by product line. RezComm carries $1,000,000 in general liability coverage through Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company, with a certificate on request, and holds a general contractor license covering our service cities. Financing is available through Acorn Finance.

What to expect for timing

Tile work takes longer than shingle work. Tiles have to be removed and handled carefully, and replacement tiles may need to be sourced. Small repairs can usually be scheduled fairly quickly once tiles are in hand. Underlayment replacement and full reroofs take longer, depending on roof size, complexity, and weather. We give you a realistic schedule once the scope is clear.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my tile roof leaking if the tiles look fine?

On a tile roof, the underlayment beneath the tiles is the main waterproofing layer. It can wear out or fail at flashing even when the tiles look good from the ground.

Can you reuse my existing tiles?

Often, yes. During underlayment replacement, sound tiles can be removed, stacked, and reinstalled, with broken ones replaced.

Is concrete or clay tile better?

Concrete tile is more common in DFW and generally more affordable. Clay tile holds its color very well and suits certain architectural styles but usually costs more. Both are durable.

Can I switch from shingles to tile?

Possibly, but tile is much heavier than shingles, so the roof structure needs to be evaluated first. Synthetic slate or lightweight tile may be alternatives.

Is it safe to walk on a tile roof?

Tiles can crack if stepped on in the wrong spot. That is why we drone-scan first and walk tile roofs carefully, and why you should avoid walking on your own tile roof.
